Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Mayra on Jan.16, 2025, under Poker
Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While participating in web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found playing online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
