Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he loved gambling on numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting really competitive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a bit and headed to New York to play some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were difficult as he played extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some additional money by being an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might better his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more rest and concentrate even more on poker.

The real advancement in his game happened when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly challenge each other. Howard had access into some of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his cunning thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

He also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker arena ever. Howard Lederer headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
