Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
