Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he liked betting on various card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and moved to New York to play some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play countless hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could better his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and concentrate more on poker.

The real improvement in his game began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would often wager against one another. Howard had access into some of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, he would sharpen his cunning thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke master poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena ever. Howard headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the subsequent decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
