Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha hi/lo begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further round of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The players must attempt to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where some players often get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in almost every poker game.

A lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand wins the complete pot.
