Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players around the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard of before.
