Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
