The History of Poker Money

by Mayra on Apr.12, 2013, under Poker

Poker chips have been made from a huge selection of materials in an almost endless variety of styles since the advent of gambling and the requirement to keep track of winnings. The most common components employed at this time in the manufacture of new poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylics. Clay chips, the primary of the bunch, have been manufactured in the US since the late 1800s.

Back in the 19th century, poker enthusiasts seemed to use any small valuable item imaginable. Early poker players at times employed rough gold pieces as well as chips – normally manufactured of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip features began to play a greater prominence, and the smooth sides of older chips gave way to chips with ridges to hold them neatly piled up with each other.

There is little doubt that poker has expanded constantly in appeal since its origin in the 1800s. With the huge growth of online gambling and unique TV shows, community interest in poker has feed the fire more rapidly than ever before. Many people are initially introduced to poker by TV showssuch as Bravo’s "Celebrity Poker Showdown" or "Poker After Dark," and many will wager on their initial hands on the web. Regardless of online poker’s growth, nothing replaces the feeling of shuffling weighty poker chips in your hand, throwing chips into the center of a poker table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after showing a victorious hand.
