Stu is thought to be by most to the finest NL Texas holdem Poker gambler ever.

The 3 time World Poker Champ was born in New York in 1953 and started playing poker prior to becomming a teenager.

The young gambler started out playing gin and at the age of ten had won his 1st gin rummy tournament, while on holiday with his mother and father. By the age of 14 the small poker maestro had turned pro and stopped going to school.

In ‘54 Stu entered the history books by succeeding 10 grand in a gin tournament without losing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York today.

The quick talking superstar has been likened, in poker terms, to sporting superstars like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu had a real talent for playing poker but despite his successes in Texas hold’em poker, he favored playing gin.

Stu once said that there may several day be a better No Limit Texas hold em player than him but he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a greater gin gambler.

In 1980 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the best Hold’em Poker players in the entire world when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the 1st time. Astonishingly it was the 1st time he had entered the tournament.

The subsequent year he put aside any suggestions that it had been luck, by effectively defending his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by succeeding his 3rd World poker championship.

Except this poker master also struggled with substance abuse and a year after winning his 3rd title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to physicians, he had passed away from cardiac arrest which was brought on by his lifestyle.

Stu had started with practically nothing but his skill and natural talent for the casino game which made this poker good a millionaire many times over.
